- Pensioning-off Software?
- The WyPEN/WyScript Object-Oriented Package.
- Lecture and Demonstration
-
- Raghu Raghavan, Wyatt Software
-
- 7:00 PM, Wednesday, November 18, 1992
- Room 123, OCATE, NW Gibbs Drive, Beaverton
-
- Pension administration presents a unique challenge to the software designer.
- The myriad options and variations make it impossible to provide a
- shrink-wrapped solution. Is it possible to extract enough of a common structure
- to devise a software system that can be economically customized for specific
- clients?
-
- The talk will cover the architecture and design of WyPEN, a field-configurable
- pension administration system written entirely in C++ to run as a MS Windows
- client-server application. WyScript is a proprietary macro language.
-
- The package covers three levels of customization, all of which successfully
- avoid the need to distribute the entire source code with the application.
-
- 1. For novices, forms and tables to fill options,
- 2. For domain experts who are not software gurus, the WyScript
- macro language,
- 3. For C/C++ programmers, an API to access WyPEN internals via dynamically
- linked libraries.
-
- An additional challenge is that WyPEN's clients are giant companies, which
- means WyPEN has to work with huge amounts of data, typically resident on
- many mainframe databases and systems. Furthermore, the system must support
- unusual user interfaces, such as 1-800 numbers and touch-tone telephones.
-
- The talk will be accompanied by a demonstration of the system.
