-
- That's a broad statement, did you mean it was useless to the majority of
- people who post to nz.general? If so, I think I have to disagree.
-
- >Why just say "Please cut down on the quoting"? Or are you trying to make
- >a point by example?
-
- I was trying to make the point that I shouldn't *need* to say cut down on
- the quoting. If a poster has read the articles in news.announce.newusers
- then they should know about sumerising and all the other polite things
- that help make USENET function.
-
- And I've found it's no good saying "go and read the guidelines" because
- people don't. So I thought it might just be useful to refresh reader's
- memories of what *is* in the guidelines.
-
- If someone has gone to the effort of carefully explaining the issues
- involved in USENET manners why should I rewrite it, why not use the
- original explanation, the prose is better thna I could write.
-
- And the penteultimate reason was that if I say "don't quote so much" then
- people can come back and say "so what, what do you know about it". Quoting
- from the standard guidelines gives my comments a little more
- substantiation.
-
- And the very last reason was that it stopped me from writing an abusive
- flame which I think we'll all agree was a good thing.
-
- Thanks for your comment.
