- There were about six cases listed in one of our local papers yesterday. In
- one case a women (whose husband had died of cancer) lost most of a 44 acre
- farm that they had raised their family on. A patch of marijuana was seen
- growing on a corner of the property. They sued the "property", acquired it
- by forfeiture and then sold the property. The money goes into a fund to
- aid in the "war on drugs".
-
- Another woman lost her half of a house (she was divorced) because her husband
- had a marijuana plant in the basement. He plead nole contendre and got five
- years probation--the house went to the federal government.
-
- They mentioned several cases where "alleged" drug dealers were arrested at
- the airport and cash was conviscated (since it "might" be used in a drug
- deal). No court cases were filed--they just took the money.
-
- In property cases they only need to sue the property--since the property is
- what's illegal.
