- I am a student at the University of Warwick, England. Having no previous
- legal experience I am writing for advice as to whether I have a viable case for
- prosecution and compensation.
-
-
- Basically a cigarette was purposly put out on my neck by a man I had
- never met before. The burn mark is sure to leave a scar that will be very
- visible under normal conditions of dress. It happened very early into the party
- as I had just arrived. Two men where clearly very drunk. The first man, I'll
- call him #1 approached me for a cigarette. Having only one left I refused but he
- persisted to the degree of offering me 80 pence for one. Naturally I
- rationalised and sold the cigarette. Everything wass fine until his collegue
- found out that I had sold him this cigarette. He was very upset at the extreme
- price and startede threatening me to obtain the money back. I kept my calm and
- explained that we had made a fair exchange and that he couldn't hit me it was
- against the law. This made him retract temporarily.
-
-
- The next thing I new I had a cigarette sizzling into my neck. At this
- time I was talking with a group of good freinds who saw the whole incident.
- Again I kept my calm and warned the attacker that the security guards would be
- called.
-
-
- I spoke no further with the offenders until the security guards arrived.
- They took all the details of the incident and each party agreed the obove was a
- true explanation of what happened. After all this fuss I wanted to go to bed.
- Upon leaving the room the collegue #2 shouted that my life was under threat and
- that my calling the security guards was an act of cowardice.
-
-
-
-
- In summary :
-
- Premeditated and unjustified attack with a cigarette.
-
- Could mean permanent defamation of facial features.
-
- Mental stress due to prosecution and also effect on study.
-
- Further threats witnessed by security guard on my future health.
-
-
-
-
- I dont feal angry towards the offenders but feel very upset and confused
- by the incident. Upon meeting new people now they invariably comment on the
- scare and invariably identify it as a cigarette wound; not a very good
- representation of myself.
-
-
-
- Please offer any legal advice you have time to donate considering my
- living within the united kingdom.
-
-
- Please offer suggestions as to how to approach the prosecution and
- compensation applications and procedures.
-
-
-
- Thankyou very much.
