- A month or so ago I posted a note about our problems getting Doug (now 14
- mos) into his carseat. I received many helpful responses. It seems that
- over the past few weeks things have greatly improved. The thing that worked
- best for us while we were in the midst of the battle was to read a book in
- the car. We would put Doug into the seat, he would stand up and turn around
- before we could buckle him in, we would pull out a book and sit down and
- start reading, after a few pages he would turn around and look at the
- pictures, then sit down, and we could finally strap him in without too much
- fuss. We would finish the book and then head off. This really only took
- about 1-2 minutes and was WORTH it. Now, he seems to have given up the
- fight completely. We also try to praise him when we don't have to struggle
- to go somewhere (we are really committed to positive reinforcement).
-
- This problem seems to be pretty common, at least among misc.kidders! For
- us, it only lasted about a month--a LONG month :-). Maybe the book
- suggestion will work for some one else. We leave tomorrow for a 10 hour
- drive to Indiana, I hope we don't cause a setback!!
