- I would like to hear from parents whose children have made the
- transition from a Montessori school to a traditional school. My
- daughter is kindergarten age currently. She has been at her Montessori school for
- 3 years (since she was 2.5). I am trying to decide what school to send
- her for elementary.
-
- Things that she and I concerned about:
-
- 1) Sitting at a desk
-
- 2) She will be reading fairly well by the end of the year. Is it a
- problem, reading before 1st grade?
-
- 3) In the tradition of Montessori, she is learning to write cursive
- instead of printing. Any problems here?
-
- 4) She is used to choosing her work. Working at her own individual
- pace. Is this transition hard?
-
- My preference would be to send her to the local public school, primarily
- for social reasons.
- 1) the school is bigger with more children
- 2) she is an only child and having neighborhood friends would be great.
- 3) The kids would be from a wide viariety of socio-economic backgrounds.
- I would like her to have a larger life experience. Also, I am hoping
- that she will understand better necessity vs luxury.
-
- I will be talking to the local public school and observing in January.
- Any help on questions to ask would be appreciated.
