  26. OK, now I want to get on my soapbox. First of all, I am not against
  27. any kind of music. That said, the problem I have is with very loud music.
  28. Very loud music does lead to hearing loss. This is a personal concern
  29. of mine, since I am deaf in one ear (not from loud music, though). You
  30. cannot imagine what a precious gift your hearing is until you lose it.
  31. If I am in a noisy restaurant, I frequently cannot hear what my
  32. tablemates are saying, even though my remaining ear is normal. My
  33. neighbor's son has a stereo in his car that is quite expensive -
  34. and with his car windows rolled up, and me in my house with the windows
  35. closed, I can still hear him coming down the street. Can you imagine
  36. what it must be like *inside* the car? I thought I read somewhere that
  37. attending concerts is like standing next to a jet taking off. My
  38. daughter's elementary school has a sock hop each year - with a DJ.
  39. I stopped taking my children, because the music is so loud. There is
  40. no need to blast until it hurts. Good music is good at soft volumes
  41. too. OK, I will get off my soapbox now.
