- Many people have sent me responses, and most have understood my
- feelings on the subject. A few have not, so I'd like to spell it
- out:
- 1.) Everyone is entitled to their own feelings about what is
- or is not a "big deal." The fact that you don't share
- this feeling is no reason to belittle it.
-
- 2.) Some doctors (like my doctor's partner) will
- *automatically* do an episiotomy. Its not a matter of
- medical emergency or my preference. Doing the episiotomy
- is automatic.
-
- 3.) Barring medical emergency, the doctor selected seems to
- be the big factor in whether or not an episiotomy is
- done. Thus, I am in the process of switching doctors.
-
- 4.) (For all those who have reminded me of this) I know the
- most important thing is to have a healthy baby. If you
- feel doctors can do anything they want to you providing
- this is the outcome, that's fine for you. Not everyone
- shares your feelings. The baby is the most important
- thing for me too, but in addition to that I want the
- delivery handled a certain way and will do as much as I
- can to ensure that things go the way I want.
