- East of the Mississippi, yes, because everything is so close
- together. You hunt deer with a shotgun to reduce the risk of
- injuries.

- Buckshot loads are both typical for hunting deer, and for
- very short range self-defense. You can expect lethal injuries
- with buckshot loads to 100 yards, and I wouldn't discount
- the possibility of death to 150-200 yards.

- Remember that a deer and a person are somewhat similiar in
- requirements for lethal wounding. A distance of 100 yards
- for shotgun deer is sort of the outside limit to expect
- a humane kill.
