- Hi All!
-
- Here in NY, we (volunteers) are allowed one blue light. Used as a
- courtesy
- light, it only serves to identify us as responding emergency personnel
- to the
- public. We are not given any special privileges, nor are other vehicles
-
- required to pull over for us. And many do not. If anyone is seen
- running a
- red light, or passing someone over the double yellow line, then a ticket
- can
- be issued. More often, however, the blue light privilege is taken away
- for
- 30/60/90 days. Depends how the chief's day is going <GGG>. I feel that
-
- (whether or not we should be able to break traffic laws) there should be
- a
- law REQUIRING other drivers to PULL OVER and let us pass. I can't tell
- you
- how much it annoys me to get behind someone with my blue light on (and
- VERY
- visable) and have them actually SLOW DOWN! There was one @%!@$%^@#$
- that
- slowed down and pulled to the right, and then when I went to go around
- him,
- he pulled back out and sped up; forcing me into the left lane with
- oncoming
- traffic. It's people like this that make me HOPE that it is THEIR house
-
- burning down, or their relative in Cardiac
- arrest. (As bad as this sounds and feels, sometimes its true)
-
- Well, I think I'll step down off my soapbox for now.
