- Pat:
- To fight Forest Fires (Wildland Fires) you need to have a Red
- Card!
- The National Wildfire Coordinating Group in Booise, Idaho; which is
- made
- up of Federal and State Agencies like the National Park Service, U.S.
- Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management etc. has guidelines for the
- issuing of Red Cards.
- When I received my Red Card Certification from the National Park
- Service, I had to complete three (3) courses; (1) Basic Wildland Fire
- Fighter, Course # S-130, (2) Introduction to Fire Behavior, Course #
- S-190 and (3) Incident Command System, Course # ???(don't remember)..
- You also take a yearly physical test called a STEP TEST. Only after
- you have completed these, will you be RED CARD Certified!
- I know that the National Park Services has some seasonal jobs for
- what they call "HOT SPOT CREW". These are dirty and hard jobs!
- To obtain information on Red Card Certification contact the U.S.
- Dept. of Ag. - U.S. Forest Service, or for Hot Spot Crew contact the
- National Park Service.
- Wish you luck!!!!!
