- CE>Out hear in California, they are a little strange. No lights on

- You bring up a GOOD point here.....No matter what your locality
- authorizes, others on the road still SEE a P.O.V. (priv. owned veh.)
- and
- not a duly recognized Emergency Response Vehicle (E.R.V). These people
- that jump to their cars at all hours on a beeper call and race to
- wherever
- at ANY speed above and beyond SAFE or ignore/bypass traffic laws and
- regs
- not only endanger themselves, but put everyone else on the road at
- risk.
- There's almost no justification for a response at 70 mph in an E.R.V.
- let
- alone one in a P.O.V. that is doing it because they have a
- blue/red/green/whatever light and/or siren in their
- car/truck/motorcycle/bicycle. Around here, (lower Alabama) I constantly
- hear stories of how responders were JUST ABLE to evade the "JERK" that
- didn't/couldn't see them coming at 100mph and didn't get outta the way.
- And these people have the gall to cuss the citizen driver for not
- recognizing the responders overall right to the road!! ANYBODY on the
- road
- MUST drive in a safe and defensive manner, REQUESTING the right of way,
- there can be no demanding, or ignoring the rules of the road .
- especially
- by these clowns that are doing their best to blacken the eyes of the
- true
- emergency professionals. This includes the professional VOLUNTEERS, as
- they serve a major function in the emergency services, unfortunately,
- it
- is all too often the volunteer (lower case intended) that is the
- perpetrator of these self same actions. I realize that I got a little
- long
- winded here, but this topic finally touched off a raw nerve that's been
- simmering on the back burner since I heard a tale (local) of a 3 veh
- MVA
- caused by a "volly" racing down a 2 lane main street at over 80mph
- responding to a grass fire and not stopping to render aid to the MVA
- victims, but wondering why they wouldn't get out of the way............
- We do no good if we don't get where we're going safely....T.
