- Michael Seneco Overheard William J. Vital talking about Afa training..
- recently..... WJV> Red Cross Prehospital WJV> medicine has evolved
- dramatically over the past 20 years. AFA was, WJV> it's time, the
- standard of care. This was at a time when ambulance WJV> crews
- basically ran "scope and swoop" operations. Although If you WJV> want
- to help others the answer to your question should be obvious. WJV>
- yourself this: If you were lying in the street critically injured, WJV>
- would you want taking care of you, someone with 40 hours of WJV> (AFA),
- or someone with triple that training (EMT). To anwser
- your question quoted above : I would want who could help
- me to provide me with aid. I certainly not ask them what
- there training was before I allowed to assist me. Last I
- checked, there is no difference in way a Red Cross
- trained and an EMT trained person stops someone from
- bleeding. Michael Seneco, EMT-A
-
- I agree with you. What started the conversation was a question about
- training. Prior to joining an ambulance group/service. No idea what
- state. The training for basic first aid items, like a laceration, is
- excellent in the AFA course. But Federal requirements mandate Basic
- Life Support Training for First Aid/Rescue Squads (and private ambulance
- services also???). You know the advancements in the amount of training
- for an EMT-A. For me, now NJ is getting together am EMT-D course. Of
- course the doctors, health care professionals, AND the Red Cross are all
- helping formulate the EMT-D Course outline. The Red Cross is still the
- only organization where Joe/Jane Citizen can get a First Aid/First
- Responder Training. ARC shares the training with American Heart
- Association for certifying all health care professionals in CRP. That
- will probably never change. The Federal Requirements for EMT training
- is a little more than the ARC would want to handle. The requirements for
- the course(s), IMHO, mandate a whole lot of red-tape and administrative
- BS.
