- FYI, from Maoist Internationalist Movement
-
- Dennis Brutus is a former political prisoner with Nelson Mandela
- on Robben Island. He is also known as one of Africa's top poets
- and the leader of the movement to ban South Africa from Olympic
- sports.
-
- Deported from South Africa, Brutus was nearly deported from the
- United States in the 1980s. MIM's predecessors took up work at that
- time to stop the deportation. Since that time Brutus has been
- a professor at various institutions in the United States.
-
- Last summer, Brutus was finally enabled to return to South Africa, where
- he met with Mandela and other Black leaders. He also is just back from
- addressing the UN on the status of the former sports ban on South Africa.
-
- Cosponsoring these talks are the Education for Action, the Maoist
- Internationalist Movement, the Harvard African Students Organization,
- the Harvard Afro-American Studies Department, the Harvard Black
- Student Association, the Northeastern Department of African-American
- Studies, Northeastern African Students Association.
