- NONVIOLENCE IN NATIONAL FOREST
-
- Wild Rockies Earth First! has been actively opposing two
- massive timber sales in Idaho's Nez Perce National Forest.
- EF! targeted these sales as examples of what is happening to
- the virgin forests of the Wild Rockies. The affected areas are
- an important wildlife habitat and migration corridor and are
- part of the largest roadless wilderness complex in the lower
- 48 states.
-
- The goal of EF! organizing is to block construction of roads
- into these forests. Activists arrived in July and established
- a base camp. They held meetings with the Red River District
- Forest Service and hiked into the forest to look for signs of
- surveying and road building. Finding what they were looking for
- activists have since engaged in various direct actions including
- tree sitting, building platforms in roads to block further
- construction, chaining themselves to bulldozers, demonstrating
- at the Forest Service office, etc. Some activists have been
- arrested and many have been harassed by Forest Service special
- agents.
-
- Help is needed by those who can join folks in Idaho or through
- fundraising, food donations, publicity and education. Contact:
