- According to a copy of "Guide to Catalina and California's
- Channel Islands" I bought last year, hiking is permitted
- (on six miles of established trails), and camping is
- available. Hiking permits are required, free, and
- available from park headquarters in Ventura, (805)
- 644-8262. Public transport is available via power and
- sail boat next to park headquarters in Ventura; info is
- available from Island Packers, (805) 642-1393. The book
- says there are daily boats in the summer, but winter
- weather gets "rather nasty" around Santa Barbara Island,
- and few trips are scheduled.
-
- Santa Barbara Island is a part of Channel Islands
- National Park, along with San Miguel, Santa Rosa, Santa
- Cruz and Anacapa islands. It looks like San Nicolas and
- San Clemente are the two islands the Navy uses in target
- practice.
