- I will now flame MANN Theaters in Westwood, and the news media for
- their portrayal of the incident that occured in Westwood at a showing
- of New Jack City, and the handling of the X showing in Westwood. Of
- course, my organization does not endorse or condone the following
- statements.
-
- Flame on!
-
- I think that there is a lot of unnecessary hype being put out by the media
- concerning possible problems in Westwood Village, over the screening of X.
- I have heard several reports mentioning the "rioting" and looting that
- occured during the screening of New Jack City, but no one has bothered to
- mention the actual cause or who was actually to blame. I was not there,
- but several of my friends were there when the incident happened, and I
- heard the same accounting from other people who where there. The incident
- was caused by.....
-
- This is your last chance to remain blissfully ignorant.
-
- The theater that showed New Jack City is part of the Mann chain (there
- are 7 in Westwood Village). They have a policy of allowing advanced ticket
- sales (i.e. you can go at 12 Noon and buy tickets to the 10PM show). Prior
- to the midnight showing, and the start of the rioting, the theater officials
- refused to seat several dozen people who had BOUGHT advanced tickets for that
- show. It was obvious that they had overbooked, but the attendants REFUSED
- to refund any money, or offer any kind of rain check. Unfortunately, some
- of the people decided to take their anger out on Westwood Village. While
- I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT CONDONE THE ACTIONS OF THE PEOPLE WHO TRASHED WESTWOOD,
- I DO THINK THAT THE INCIDENT SHOULD BE CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUNDING THE
- INCIDENT BE REVEALED.
-
- If anyone has a different angle on what happened that night, I'd like to
- hear. In support of my statement, however, this past weekend, Mann
- Theaters and other Westwood merchants co-sponsored an African-American
- festival in the UCLA's parking lot 32 (near Wilshire and Veteran).
-
- Flame off
