- Hello,
- I try to use emacs on VAX vt100 terminal.
- the emacs is on DECstation with Ultrix4.2.
- I connect to the DECstation host, and type
- csh>emacs
-
- but I got error message:
- X server not responding, check environ DISPLAY.
-
- it seems to me that emacs on the DECstation
- think my vt100 terminal has X windows, so
- it try to open an X window for the editor.
-
- I tried the options -d displayname and -nw
- to force the emacs not to open the X window.
- but I still got the same error message.
-
- can someone give me a clue on where the problem
- is, and how to fix it.
-
- we have this problem on our system many times,
- by MANY TIMES I mean it sometimes comes and sometimes
- goes out without any notice. and every time
- we have some change in the network file system,
- this problem will come out.
-
- Thanks very much!
