- The College of Engineering Academic Computing Program of the
- University of Maryland at College Park is searching for two Unix
- support persons to provide systems programming and systems management
- support for Project Glue, a College of Engineering venture, to
- develop a multiple-architecture operating systems support
- environment. Currently, Project Glue operates approximately 500
- networked Unix workstations and 300 additional non-Unix hosts (IBM
- PC, Apple Macintosh).

- Responsibilities for the position of systems programmer include: i)
- In cooperation with the Project Manager and other Project staff,
- assist in the development of operating systems releases, system
- management tools and other systems programming responsibilities,
- including integration of public domain software such as Athena; ii)
- provide supervision to student programming staff and general systems
- programming and other resposnsibilities as assigned.

- For the second position, responsibilities include: i) In cooperation
- with the Project Manager and other Project staff, provide
- systems/accounts management support; ii) serve as a technical point
- of contact for Unix systems software for the Engineering College
- faculty and staff.

- Both positions, renewable annually, will be offered a University
- title of 'Faculty Research Assistant' and will report to the Project
- Manager. To be eligible, the incumbent i) must hold a bachelors'
- degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related science; ii)
- demonstrate ability in Unix systems programming and Unix systems
- management. Specific skills for the position of systems programming
- include knowedge of C, Unix shell programming languages, Unix
- Internals; for the postion of systems management, experience in
- management of NFS, Unix mail, TCP/IP network software systems.
- Ability to communicate with faculty and administrators.

- Annual salary range: $26,000 - $32,000, negotiable, commensurate with
- experience. Benefits include University contribution to health
- insurance, tution remission for self and dependents, opportunity for
- study towards advanced degree, 22 days working annual leave, 15 paid
- holidays, and 15 days sick leave. To be considered for this
