  12. My group has recently started using a previously idle MicroVAX-II
  13. running Ultrix 4.2; unfortunately, the manuals were sent to be
  14. recycled by the previous users.

  16. I've been having problems with disks: there are a few bad blocks
  17. on both the / and /usr filesystems, and processes swapping on the
  18. root partition occasionally fall over because of this.  Lately,
  19. the machine has refused to boot due to the hard errors on the root
  20. file system.  Running fsck on the disks does not repair the hard
  21. errors, and DEC's radisk utility doesn't seem to help either.  I
  22. am slightly at a loss for options at the moment.  Is there any way
  23. I can remap the bad blocks?  Even losing a few files would be
  24. preferable to having to reformat the disks and do a reinstall
  25. (especially with no documentation to guide us).
