- My group has recently started using a previously idle MicroVAX-II
- running Ultrix 4.2; unfortunately, the manuals were sent to be
- recycled by the previous users.
-
- I've been having problems with disks: there are a few bad blocks
- on both the / and /usr filesystems, and processes swapping on the
- root partition occasionally fall over because of this. Lately,
- the machine has refused to boot due to the hard errors on the root
- file system. Running fsck on the disks does not repair the hard
- errors, and DEC's radisk utility doesn't seem to help either. I
- am slightly at a loss for options at the moment. Is there any way
- I can remap the bad blocks? Even losing a few files would be
- preferable to having to reformat the disks and do a reinstall
- (especially with no documentation to guide us).
