- I need some help trying to resolve a remote access ( rsh, rcp, rlogin ) problem
- I've been having with Interactive 3.0.1. The configuration is a server runing
- ISC 3.0.1 with multiple PC workstationsi (FTP PCTCP) and an ISC 2.2 workstation
- on an ethernet LAN.
-
- The PROBLEM is that if resolv.conf is set up to use the nameserver, remote
- access from the PCs and the ISC 2.2 workstation (rsh, rcp, rlogin, etc) is not
- recognize as equivalent and the user is prompted for passwords or the command
- fails with permission denied. If resolv.conf is set up as nonameserver,
- the remote commands work fine.
-
- Before I get swamped with some of the obvious responses, let me give some
- details and alternatives already tried.
-
- - other functions that access named work correctly (i.e ping, ftp, rlogins
- to internet sites)
- - resolv.conf has the domain specified correcty
- - resolv.conf has the name server address specified as an IP address.
- - hosts.equiv has had hosts specified as short names, full domain names, and
- both.
- - .rhosts has had hosts specified as short names, full domain names, and
- both.
- - .rhosts is owned by the correct user and is writable only by that user.
-
- I've talked to SunSoft tech support 5 or 6 times in the last week and they sent
- the question on the development staff. (who came back with the same items
- listed above.)
-
- WHAT AM I MISSING ?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
