-
- 1-What is US4BINR
-
- US4BINR is an archive dedicated to Binaries (executable compiled program)
- for UNIX System V Release 4 (SVR4) on 386/486 PC computer.
-
- Our goal is to provide easy access to precompiled programs. Those
- programs are (hopefully):
-
- Up to date.
- Documented.
- Useful or fun.
-
- UNIX System V Release 4 for 386/486 is available from numerous
- sources. Here are some:
-
- Consensys
- Dell
- Esix
- Microport
- Micro Station Technology
- Uhc
-
- A monthly posting in comp.unix.sysv386 by Eric S. Raymond
- helps differentiated those suppliers. Look for
- "PC-clone UNIX Software Buyer's Guide".
-
-
- 2-Related newsgroups
-
- Once in a while, I will post a list of all new upload in
- comp.unix.sysv386 (for a short period).
-
- When volume will mandate, those postings will go to a new
- newsgroup.
-

- INTRODUCTION TO US4BINR
- Archive site for SVR4 386/486 Binaries
-
- How to download
- ---------------
-
- Download is done through a mail server. Send request to
- "request@us4binr.uucp" or "request%us4binr.uucp@uunet.uu.net"
- with any subject line. Here is a summary
- of the commands available and a sample request.
-
- reply foo@foobar.foo
- zip
- uuencode
- cd /archive
- dir
- get unzip.tar zip.tar
- quit
-
-
- bencode ( Effective for "get" command only )
-
- files will be bencode before transmision.
-
- cd [ path ]
-
- change directory in the archive. Without argument, get back to
- the root of the archive. The path may be relative or absolute.
- It support UNIX convention, using the / as path separator, the
- period as current directory alias, and the double period as the
- ancestor directory alias.
-
- compress ( Effective for "get" command only )
-
- Apply "compress -b16" to the file before transmission.
- (default).
-
- dir [[path/]file] ...
-
- Gets a directory listing with short file description.
- Without argument, gets all the current directory.
- Arguments may holds wildcards using ? and *
-
- get [path/]file ...
-
- Order transmission of files to you. Use previous compression
- and encoding parameter.
-
- help
-
- Prints this text.
-
- intro [path/]file ...
-
- Gets a short text (few lines) introducing a file.
- It is a good idea when you are unsure of the file usefulness.
- (Be nice for the net).
-
- quit
-
- Skip the rest of the mail. You may put anything after this,
- especially a readable signature. This may help.
-
- reply email_adress
-
- Normally the mail server use the reply-to: or the from: field of
- your mail to reply. You may (Very good idea) override this by placing
- the adresse here.
-
- uuencode ( Effective for "get" command only )
-
- Files will be uuencode before transmission (default).
-
- zip ( Effective for "get" command only )
-
- Apply zip to the file before transmission.
- This compress much more than compress -b16. This is also
- safer, since zip carry error checking code (CRCs). Use unzip
- or pkunzip to uncompress. if you do not have unzip, send
- a request like this.
-
- reply your_adress
- get archive/unzip.tar
- quit
-
- How to upload
- -------------
-
- Send a message to "upload@us4binr.uucp" or
- "upload%us4binr.uucp@uunet.uu.net". We accept
- public domain, freeware and shareware. We accept game if they
- are fun :-). We do not accept sources (except if it is
- a very small part of the submission, and useful for
- configuration or installation purpose).
-
- Presents a short description of your program, and its status
- (shareware, freeware, public domain). Pointer to sources if
- available. Your description should include a single line
- introduction (60 characters) and a more complete one (10 lines).
-
- Specify your status (author, mother of the author, unrelated, etc...).
- Please be advised that your name and email adress will be made
- available to everybody who download it.
-
- You will receive directives on how to proceed. DO NOT send files without
- being first told to do so. Repeat this process for every updates you
- send.
-
- Quality of the uploads
- ----------------------
-
- All files in the archive are delivered as is. No claims are made
- about the quality or usefulness of the packages. You download and ...
- you discover. A good place to exchange feelings about a package
- is in the comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d newsgroup.
-
- In order to maintain a suitable level of quality, we follows some
- guidelines. Whenever one of the following case apply, send
- mail to "complaint@us4binr.uucp" or "complaint%us4binr.uucp@uunet.uu.net".
- Specify the package which is odd, and the reason it is so. The package
- will be deleted from the archive without much question. Here are
- the main reasons why a package will be deleted:
-
- -Does not comply with description (A package falsely presented
- as a public domain)
- -The package hide a virus, or some trojan horses.
- -The package has a severe bug and may cause loss of
- data (unrelated to the package itself).
- -The package is offending.
-
- Please don't email because you have found a bug (unless
- the bug is dangerous). Instead complain to the author.
