  21. US4BINR is an archive dedicated to Binaries (executable compiled program)
  22. for UNIX System V Release 4 (SVR4) on 386/486 PC computer.

  24. Our goal is to provide easy access to precompiled programs. Those
  25. programs are (hopefully):

  27.     Up to date.
  28.     Documented.
  29.     Useful or fun.

  31. UNIX System V Release 4 for 386/486 is available from numerous
  32. sources. Here are some:

  63.     Download is done through a mail server. Send request to
  64.     "request@us4binr.uucp" or "request%us4binr.uucp@uunet.uu.net"
  65.     with any subject line. Here is a summary
  66.     of the commands available and a sample request.

  83.     change directory in the archive. Without argument, get back to
  84.     the root of the archive. The path may be relative or absolute.
  85.     It support UNIX convention, using the / as path separator, the
  86.     period as current directory alias, and the double period as the
  87.     ancestor directory alias.

  91.     Apply "compress -b16" to the file before transmission.

  112.     It is a good idea when you are unsure of the file usefulness.

  122.     Normally the mail server use the reply-to: or the from: field of

  132.     Apply zip to the file before transmission.
  133.     This compress much more than compress -b16. This is also
  134.     safer, since zip carry error checking code (CRCs). Use unzip
  135.     or pkunzip to uncompress. if you do not have unzip, send
  136.     a request like this.

  142. How to upload
  143. -------------

  145.     Send a message to "upload@us4binr.uucp" or
  146.     "upload%us4binr.uucp@uunet.uu.net". We accept
  147.     public domain, freeware and shareware. We accept game if they
  148.     are fun :-). We do not accept sources (except if it is
  149.     a very small part of the submission, and useful for
  150.     configuration or installation purpose).

  152.     Presents a short description of your program, and its status
  153.     (shareware, freeware, public domain). Pointer to sources if
  154.     available. Your description should include a single line
  155.     introduction (60 characters) and a more complete one (10 lines).

  157.     Specify your status (author, mother of the author, unrelated, etc...).
  158.     Please be advised that your name and email adress will be made
  159.     available to everybody who download it.
  160.  
  161.     You will receive directives on how to proceed. DO NOT send files without
  162.     being first told to do so. Repeat this process for every updates you
  163.     send.

  165. Quality of the uploads
  166. ----------------------

  168.     All files in the archive are delivered as is. No claims are made
  169.     about the quality or usefulness of the packages. You download and ...
  170.     you discover. A good place to exchange feelings about a package
  171.     is in the comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d newsgroup.
  172.  
  173.     In order to maintain a suitable level of quality, we follows some
  174.     guidelines. Whenever one of the following case apply, send
  175.     mail to "complaint@us4binr.uucp" or "complaint%us4binr.uucp@uunet.uu.net".
  176.     Specify the package which is odd, and the reason it is so. The package
  177.     will be deleted from the archive without much question. Here are
  178.     the main reasons why a package will be deleted:
  179.  
  180.     -Does not comply with description (A package falsely presented
  181.      as a public domain)
  182.     -The package hide a virus, or some trojan horses.
  183.     -The package has a severe bug and may cause loss of
  184.      data (unrelated to the package itself).
  185.     -The package is offending.

  187.      Please don't email because you have found a bug (unless
  188. the bug is dangerous). Instead complain to the author.
