  11. I have been using AMERICAN POWER CONVERSION model 800RT standby UPS for
  12. 2.5 years now with AT&T Unix SVR3.2.2/386.  With the 800RT I bought from
  13. APC "PowerChute" automatic shutdown utility for $99.00.  It comes with a
  14. 9-pin male to 9-pin female cable with a 9-pin to 25-pin adapter and
  15. very easy-to-read documentation.  Installation is a breeze through "installpkg"
  16. utility and the software can use ANY serial port (I use COM1 because it's dumb)
  17. but you could use it on intelligent board ports.  The options provided are:

  21. - How long after system switches to battery should the FIRST warning message
  22.   be sent? (in seconds)

  24. - How frequently should the warning message be sent? (in seconds)

  26. - What %power should remain in battery before system is shutdown?

  28. Powerchute is part shell script so you can customize the shutdown procedure
  29. and messages. Another feature is that powerchute places a line in /etc/rc to
  30. start itself automatically at boot time.
