- I have been using AMERICAN POWER CONVERSION model 800RT standby UPS for
- 2.5 years now with AT&T Unix SVR3.2.2/386. With the 800RT I bought from
- APC "PowerChute" automatic shutdown utility for $99.00. It comes with a
- 9-pin male to 9-pin female cable with a 9-pin to 25-pin adapter and
- very easy-to-read documentation. Installation is a breeze through "installpkg"
- utility and the software can use ANY serial port (I use COM1 because it's dumb)
- but you could use it on intelligent board ports. The options provided are:
-
-
-
- - How long after system switches to battery should the FIRST warning message
- be sent? (in seconds)
-
- - How frequently should the warning message be sent? (in seconds)
-
- - What %power should remain in battery before system is shutdown?
-
- Powerchute is part shell script so you can customize the shutdown procedure
- and messages. Another feature is that powerchute places a line in /etc/rc to
- start itself automatically at boot time.
-
-
- I highly recommend it.
