  11. I just found this newsgroup.  I recently posted a version of
  12. the following to comp.unix.admin but this seems to be a better
  13. place for this problem.

  15. Hello I am trying to resolve problems on Dell Unix SVR4
  16. Issue 2.2 platform I suspect but am not certain that something in
  17. the Dell Unix is misconfigured.  Hope it's something I can adjust

  19. I am getting a large number of messages of the form:

  21. WARNING: rmfree map overflow D01B475C. lost 1 items at -19yxxx

  23. where y is 0, 1, or 2 and x is a decimal digit.  These messages
  24. appear to be written to /dev/console not stdout or stderr.  I
  25. don't see them when running under X but when I exit X, I find
  26. the last couple that haven't rolled off the top of the screen.

  28. Under Dell Unix SVR4 error messages don't accumulate in
  29. /usr/adm/log.  Is there a way to reconfigure so the
  30. system error messages are logged.

  32. At the time the errors occure I am running a script to apply
  33. patch "2" to Oracle V6.0.34.2.1  Oracle is attempting to
  34. replace files in large .a archives.  After getting many of these
  35. errors the system eventually crashes and I have to hit the
  36. power switch to get it restarted.  When I try again after the
  37. reboot and fsck's the archives are corrupted.  Will pursue
  38. this with Oracle and Dell Tech support in the morning.  Hope
  39. somebody recognizes this error message and I don't have to
  40. resort to a horrendous find command looking for the string
  41. "rmfree map overflow"
