- You know, I've only been reading this group for about a month now,
- but one thing is abundantly clear: this belongs on the canonical
- list of all-time frequently asked questions.
-
- Which leaves me puzzled. Why should anyone care who fingers them?
- I mean, e-mail is surely superior for two-way communication.
-
- Presumably you finger someone to find out one of several things:
- - are they logged on?
- - how long has it been since they read mail?
- - when do they plan to be out of town?
-
- And coming in a distant fourth in importance (IMHO), but certainly
- first in popularity (if .plain file contents are any indication):
- - find out what sort of foolishness the fingeree considers
- clever, witty, and/or inspirational.

- Yeah, right.
