- My advice comes in in two parts:
-
- 1. Try to dissuade management from introducing a Novell server. IMHO,
- Suns make excelent application and file servers for PCs running some
- NFS product. The Novell server will only contribute to administrative
- hassles.
-
- 2. Failing 1, the answer to your question is yes. Both the Clarkson
- packet drivers and ODI support multiple protocol stacks. I believe NDIS
- does also, but I haven't tried it. I have found ODI more reliable
- than the packet driver approach. I have used it with Pathway Access
- from Wollongong, PC/TCP Plus from FTP Software, and BWNFS from Beame &
- Whiteside. I have found BWNFS to be the most reliable. I would also
- recommend using a memory manager such as 386Max or QEMM, otherwise your
- PCs won't have enough low memory to run many DOS applications.
-
- To answer your second question, if you get NFS for Novell, your UNIX
- machines can NFS mount Novell drives. Presumably, so could your PCs.
- Then you wouldn't need to run dual protocols on your PCs. However, I
- haven't tried this. One note of caution, I believe NFS for Novell is
- kind of expensive.
-
- A third option: Netware for UNIX. I read about this several months ago
- in UNIX world. I don't know if it's available yet, but you might want
- to look into it.
-
- Hope this helps,
- Tim
