I just got Consensys V4.2, and I have just finished installing it. As part of the many things that I would like to do with the new system, I want to transfer our news feed from our Sun (running 4.1.2), a production machine, to the new SysV. When I try to compile the cnews (May92), I get redeclaration errors. I tried compiling other applications, such as GNUS locate, and it won't compile either. I have both of these applications compiled on the Sun without difficulties.
The question that I have, is there an easier way to compile and install applications on SysVr4, without having to do major tweaking of the code everytime? I am not a programmer, I am the Sys admin, and I would like to take advantage of applications such cnews, locate, nntp, etc. So far, I have been spoilt, by the easy installations of the above applications. I am concerned, that if this SysVism, that when we get our next Sun, which will invariably run Solaris 2.1, that I will be faced with the same di
fficulties. Has anyone got any suggestions; should I try GNU C, would that help? Is there something I am missing, that would help make it easier to install these apps.
Any help and/or suggestions, would be greatly appreciated.
