  13. I am working on an UNIX-based application (running on HP 400 and 700 
  14. series workstations) that will among other things allow a user to 
  15. search a large number of text files for a string.  We had planned
  16. to parse grep output for the needed search result information, 
  17. but grep is just too slow.

  19. What we are looking for is a text search program (commercial or 
  20. shared) that we can call from within our application.  Does anyone
  21. out there have any experience with UNIX searching software?  I
  22. would just like to get an idea of what is out there and then follow
  23. up on any interesting leads.
