-
- We have a network in which hosts come up without a server (i.e. are
- disk- and datafull). In this event the domainname is null, NIS
- (Yellow Pages) isn't running and the /etc/hosts file contains a
- valid list of other hosts on the network.
-
- 'ping'ing other hosts works fine and tracing the ping I can see that
- the hosts file is indeed being read. Code which used 'gethostbyaddr',
- however, doesn't work although I can see that the hosts file is being
- read again.
-
- Anyone know why 'gethostbyaddr' doesn't work? I understood that the
- system is first supposed to try NIS and then the hosts file.
-
- System: Multiple Sun SPARC-2 hosts connected on
- thin-wire Ethernet. SunOS 4.1.2.
