- How do you check the /usr filesystem in AIX? I'm running AIX 3.2.3,
- and I have been having a few problems with corrupted filesystems (usually
- /tmp, but occasionally /usr).
-
- If I run `fsck' with a file system mounted, fsck does not fix errors,
- and it seems to report a bunch of bogus errors. The problem is that
- I have not found a way to unmount either / or /usr. Umount says that
- both file systems are busy, so it refuses to unmount them. I have also
- tried running in single user mode and in maintenance mode. And I have
- tried booting off of floppies. Neither of these modes allow me to
- unmount /usr.
-
- I would be perfectly happy if I could find a way to force AIX to check
- the file systems at boot time--even if they unmount cleanly. This would
- allow me to fix a file system simply by rebooting.
