- This is wrong. Reset is immediate, shutdown [when not buggy] gives time
- to the applications to stop their service. For the sync I can't tell.

- Did you check if the (system) file systems have the check flag in
- /etc/filesystems ? I have found that on installation lots of them are
- defaulted to no, this is not wise.
