  4. Subject: LEDs flash 223 and 229 when installing new disk.  Any advise?

  11. I have done a half dozen external disk drive installations and have never
  12. had problems until I tried to install an external 1.6GB drive on a 340
  13. POWERstation.  Here is what I did:
  14.  
  15.       1. Connect new drive
  16.       2. lscfg  --- it is recongized as hdisk1 with a unique scsi address
  17.       3. smit - physical & logical storage - define a fixed disk to the os
  18.       4. Add a fixed disk to an existing group
  19.       5. Selected rootvg and "hdisk1"
  20.       6. Increase the size of various existing filesystems to make use of
  21.          the new disk space.  All seems to work fine.  I can read/write to
  22.          new space and in every respect the system behaves normally.
  23.       7. diag -a (to make sure new device is recognized)
  24.       8. shutdown -h now
  25.       9. On reboot the LED's start flashing 223 and 229 over and over.  I
  26.          can never reboot the system.  Nor can I varyonvg when I boot from
  27.          diskette.  The codes mean:
  28.  
  29.             223 - Attempting a Normal mode IPL from SCSI attached devices
  30.                   specified in NVRAM IPL Devices list
  31.  
  32.             229 - Attempting a Normal mode IPL from NVRAM IPL Devices list;
  33.                   cannot IPL from any of the listed devices, or there are
  34.                   no valid entries in the Devices List.

  36.      I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong -- this procedure has always
  37. worked before (how many times do you hear that one :-) ).  Any useful advice,
  38. especially if you've experienced this problem before) would be greatly,
  39. tremendously appreciated.  Thanks in advance.
