- Eileen Drucker at the Waltham, MA sales office (?) needs a set of
- bootable 3.2.0 tapes with "all the packages" on them (I don't know
- exactly what that means but I am sure she does.)
-
- It all started when I had gone through THREE sets of 3.2 tapes trying
- to install on an RS/6000 here, resulting in about 8 days wasted time
- and two rather expensive doorstops. Two tapes ran for a while and
- finally aborted with a tape error and an unbootable system, the third
- ran right off the reel (system was still unbootable of course.)
-
- Finally someone at the support office sent me a set of tapes which
- worked. I breathed a sigh of relief and proceeded to put in a few more
- 20 hour days trying to catch up on the time I lost over this. This was
- about 8 weeks ago.
-
- NOW the support office is telling me that if they do not get that set
- of tapes back ALL OF IBM WILL COME CRASHING TO A HALT. And that it is
- utterly impossible (or, at least, far more trouble for them than
- putting me out) for them to get another set of tapes.
-
- You can imagine why at this point I would like to hang onto the only
- set of tapes that worked and not be left high and dry, and don't
- really feel like trying another set of tapes, scratch my disks,
- re-install everything, just to see if indeed some other set of tapes
- will suffice after three sets failed.
-
- After a rather emotional and upsetting call from her and sensing the
- absolute absurdity that a customer on full-support cannot hang onto
- the only set of tapes that worked after wasting over a week already,
- not to mention the absurdity that all of IBM cannot come up with a
- replacement set for her, I am appealing to the net to get her off my
- back and let me us both live in peace and not waste any more of our
- rather precious time on this matter. Remember, the entire fate of IBM
- rests on this one small favor.
-
- I assume someone within all of IBM can get her another set of tapes,
- regardless of her pessimism (and if she is pessimistic how do you
- think *I* feel...)
-
- Thank you, I have little interest in discussing this matter further, I
- am only a dumb-shit customer who would like to use the systems he
- (perhaps foolishly) bought.
