- Our RS/6000 model 730, running AIX 3.1.6, crashes every once and a while.
- Sometimes, you almost know in advance it is gonna happen, so using the
- yellow button to avoid to have to power it down (due to "888") is an
- option. Furthermore, we sometimes need to reboot it for othere reasons.
-
- How safe is the yellow reset button? Is there a possibility of, for example,
- disk crashes? Or does it shorten the life of other components? Is a proper
- 'shutdown -F' always preferred for a (warm) reboot?
-
- I am no systems manager, so I don't have permission to 'shutdown -F', but I
- am allowed to push the yellow button.
-
- Marcel.
