- If you saw a '+:' in your local /etc/passwd, what's happening is that
- NIS (formerly YP) is pulling in more password entries from an NIS server
- on your network somewhere. The way to get a complete password list in
- the presence of NIS is "ypcat passwd". The way to find out where the
- NIS master database is located is "ypwhich". Some other system config
- files can use NIS as well, though the extent and nature varies.
