  14. Of late telnet on our sun is refusing connections. Rsh and rlogin also fail
  15. instantly.  The problem is sporadic.  Ftp and finger work.

  17. Rebooting fixes it. For a while.  Sometimes sending a HUP to inetd fixes it.

  19. This sun gets NIS service from another machine.  ypcat services | grep telnet
  20. reports the following:

  22. telnet    23/tcp

  24. which is identical to the corresponding line in /etc/services.

  26. In inetd.conf
  27. telnet    stream    tcp    nowait    root    /usr/etc/in.telnetd    in.telnetd

  30. The sun is a SparcStation E currently running 4.0.3e
  31.  
  32. Pointers as to what else I need to look at?
