  12. My thanks to all of you who responded to my request for
  13. advice on NSE.

  15. Here is what I have found out.

  18. 1.  Sun is end-of-lifing (killing) NSE
  19. 2.  Official release of successor product is real soon,
  20.     sunfolk say "a couple of weeks" or "a couple of
  21.     days".
  22. 3.  Successor product is code-named "Aviary"
  23. 4.  Sunfolk act uncomfortable when you ask them if 
  24.     "TeamWare" is the name of the new product.  
  25.     As though you and they are not supposed to know
  26.     that yet.
  27. 5.  There is upgrade path from NSE to Aviary.
  28. 6.  Aviary is cheaper than NSE, sunfolk say.
  29. 7.  The sunpitch:  Aviary relies on a simpler model
  30.     than NSE, hence is much easier and much more
  31.     robust.

  33. 8.  Users report NSE very difficult to administer,
  34.     buggy, requires emergency attention from 
  35.     Sun from time to time, requires much disk
  36.     space, a net loss for less than 4 programmers,
  37.     problematical when you have to restore.

  39. 9.  My appeal for favorable critiques of NSE generated
  40.     zero responses.

  42. 10. Competitors.  One respondent has tried ClearCase
  43.     by Atria and gives it a strong favorable review.
