  19. I and other people here have seen this quite a number of times in the past
  20. month or so. It can be "caused" by any number of applications as they start
  21. up: textedit, Frame, xload, xterm, and SAOimage have all been "culprits".

  23. Usually you can get it back by logging in from another terminal and killing
  24. either the offending process (if you know what you asked for just before it
  25. hung) or all the windows-related processes. Once, though, a system hung
  26. totally and *had* to be rebooted with L1-A.

  28. We run 4.1.2, OW3.0, olwm (in all cases that I'm aware of), various patches 
  29. but none that were applied shortly before this problem became noticeable.
