- I and other people here have seen this quite a number of times in the past
- month or so. It can be "caused" by any number of applications as they start
- up: textedit, Frame, xload, xterm, and SAOimage have all been "culprits".

- Usually you can get it back by logging in from another terminal and killing
- either the offending process (if you know what you asked for just before it
- hung) or all the windows-related processes. Once, though, a system hung
- totally and *had* to be rebooted with L1-A.

- We run 4.1.2, OW3.0, olwm (in all cases that I'm aware of), various patches
- but none that were applied shortly before this problem became noticeable.
