- I just installed a Toshiba 538F 1.2 gig in my Station internally, with no
- problems at all. I hooked it up externally on my old 2.1 system, copied 3.0
- onto it, and then simply put the 1.2 in the bay where the 105 once resided.
- Works great! 3.0 is completely installed (sans a few language drivers) and
- a lot of my own junk is on already, and there's still 710MB free on the
- Workspace! Nice to have elbow room again... The drive itself is quick, but
- noisy during seek/read/write actions. The overall 'whine' of the drive is
- the same as the 105, so there's no difference. To upgrade your new Toshiba
- (or whatever), you can do this: take out the 105 in your Station, put in the
- Toshiba and attach the CD externally. Turn on the system. The CD will
- boot, but will not go into NeXTStep, but will offer you a choice of where
- you want to have 3.0 installed. Specify your HD as it requests, then just
- sit back and wait. That's what I did. Seems to work fine. I don't ask
- questions, I just throw the things together and see what comes out! :)
