- I have just recently installed NeXT Step 3.0 on an 040 Cube and am having
- the following problem.
-
- The root directory belongs to the group "alpha", and is owned by root.
- Access privlages are such
-
- Owner Group Other
- Read Y Y N
- Write Y N N
- Execute Y Y N
-
- Almost all users on the machine belong to the group "alpha", a few don't.
- Under 2.1, those users in "alpha" could ftp and telnet in to the machine
- and could login on the terminal. Those not in "alpha" could only ftp in.
- Now under 3.0, the users in "alpha" can only ftp in and login on the
- console. When they try to telnet in, the connection gets closed. How do I
- fix this with out allowing executable privs. to those not in the "alpha"
- group, and why is this the way it is? This seems to be a very improper
- implimentation of privs.
-
- Aside from this, how do I give permission for root login via telnet or
- rlogin? I am aware that this is not a good idea.
-
- Thanks.
