- I'm having a problem writing to DAT tapes with my WangDAT 1300 connected to
- NeXTstation running NeXTSTEP 3.0
-
- The problem began as I was making a backup and the script I was using
- (Tarchive 0.71 from the sonata archives) complained of an unrecoverable medium
- error. Since then I can read, and move around (rewind, bsf, fsf etc.) old
- tapes using the drive, but I no longer seem to be able to write even an eof to
- any tape (I've tried 4 diiferent ones with no luck), much less a tar archive.
- I've rebooted many times, including a cold start of the DAT drive. I've also
- run the head cleaning tape through the drive but with no visible effect. Here's
- what I get in the terminal window
-
- 1 betenoir> mt -f /dev/nrst0 rewind
- 2 betenoir> mt -f /dev/nrst0 weof
- /dev/nrst0 weof 1 failed: I/O error
- 3 betenoir> mt -f /dev/nrst0 status
- Generic SCSI tape drive, residual=1
- Sense Key = 0x03
- Sense Code = 0x00
- Sense Byte 0x13 = 0x00
- Sense Byte 0x14 = 0x00
- Sense Byte 0x15 = 0x00
- Sense Byte 0x16 = 0x00
-
- and more significantly here's what appears on the console
-
- st: cmd = 0x10 sr_io_status = 2H
-
-
- I can't seem to find any documentation on what this is telling me or more
- importantly how to fix it. I would appreciate any help from any kind soul who
- understands DAT drives or the mt driver.
