I thought it was pretty strange, that's all.  It is the only piece of
NeXT software I've seen that doesn't allow more than one display to be
shown at one time.  For instance, Edit.app allows more than one
document to be open at once, all the drawing programs I've seen allow
more than one picture to be open at once, ImageViewer allows more than
one picture to be viewed at once, the list goes on and on.

In fact, the only pieces of software I can think of that allow only one
thing to be shown and dealt with at once are ModPlayer and NewsGrazer.
I'd guess the reasons for implementing ModPlayer as such are that when
it was written, it wasn't easily possible to get two sounds from two
different sources to come out of the speaker at the same time (unlike
3.0) and it's not the easiest thing for most users to listen to
multiple pieces of music simultaneously.  In NewsGrazer, being able to
open multiple news servers could be a useful addition to the program
(and to go along with that, an easier way of changing the news server;
perhaps a button to prompt for it?).

Nevertheless, Gator FTP+ is very useful for some ftp sites.
