- Hello again,
-
- The Powers That Be are going to erase our home directories between
- semesters, and since I have about 60MB of files to backup I would
- like to make this simple as possible. I have perused the manuals
- for dump and restore, and would like to ask all you really
- knowledgable people if I have the commands right. I will be dumping
- to HD floppy disks:
-
- dump 0Of 1.39 /dev/rfd0a
- restore rjvf /dev/rfd0a
-
- I have a few concerns. One, should I use NeXT formatted disks, or
- can I use DOS formatted disks? I would like to use DOS because there
- is less file system overhead. If I should use NeXT, what would the
- correct O parameter be? 1.3? Two, since I am not root, how can I
- know that dump is only backing up my home directory and not everything?
- Three, I am guessing that dump does no sort of compression; therefore,
- might I be better off making a .tar.Z and somehow dumping that file
- only?
-
- If there are any better ways to do this (Opener, maybe?) please clue
- me in!
-
- Regards,
-
