-
- whois -h nic.ddn.mil 'partofname'
- will return info on most Internet sites. For information on a
- .uiuc.edu domain address, say 'whois -h nic.ddn.mil uiuc.edu'. For
- information on sites containing the word 'Illinois', say 'whois -h
- nic.ddn.mil Illinois'
- I am including the explicit -h because NeXTSTEP 2.x's 'whois' still
- has the old arpanet address for the NIC, and you must use the
- nic.ddn.mil address nowadays.
- Also, just because it is in the .mil domain, don't let it fool you -
- it has a fairly complete list of every domain registered on the
- whole Internet. Note that you cannot say 'whois
- ux1.cso.uiuc.edu'... it only knows domain names, not machine names.
