  11. This is just a short note to welcome you to the new MacApp3 newsgroup.
  12.  
  13. This newsgroup should only be used for MacApp (version 3.0) discussions.
  14. It will be gatewayed to a similar (very active) mailing list on AppleLink
  15. which has a similarly narrow focus.  If you wish to discuss other object-
  16. oriented programming paridigms for the Macintosh then the right place to
  17. do this is in the comp.sys.mac.oop.misc newsgroup.  If traffic warrants
  18. then other subgroups can be created.  But that's up to you readers.

  20. Thanks to John Werner (at Berkeley) for organizing this.

  22. I have the gateway software compiled, tested, and ready to run.  There is 
  23. already an active discussion on AppleLink with over 300 developers (both
  24. inside and outside of Apple).
  25.  
  26. Unfortunately, the Call-For-Votes ended at the same time as a new person
  27. took over our (apple's) main news feed.  This is good news, but it does
  28. mean that turning on the MacApp3 newsfeed is delayed.  Anyway, I've given
  29. them a list of commands to install so it should happen any day now.

  31. The plan is to first gateway all traffic from the AppleLink mailing list
  32. Macapp3tech$ to Usenet.  There is a potential problem with MessageIDs that
  33. come out of AppleLink which I had to program around.   I would like to
  34. watch this for a couple of days (with real traffic) before I turn on the
  35. gateway in the other direction (Usenet to AppleLink).  
  36.  
  37. If I screw up then there is a chance that some messages from Usenet will go 
  38. to AppleLink and then get dumped back into the newsgroup (duplicate messages).
