- I would like to move up from my 286 to a 486, and am intrigued
- by the new ZEOS machines which offer an easy chip upgrade to
- the "overdrive" version of the 586 (32-bit externally). Gee,
- I say to myself, that kind of upgrade doesn't just provide more
- speed, but would allow me to run any future 64-bit software
- without buying a whole new machine.
-
- However, although it's been known for some time that the 586 can
- handle 64 bits internally, no one (in the magazines I've read)
- has announced the development of software to take advantage of it.
- Is there such software available from mini computers that will be
- ported to PCs? If we've waited several years after the 386 was
- introduced until there were true 32-bit operating systems and
- software, how long until there's software that really puts a
- 586 to the test?
-
- So, I know the 586 and a 586sx would be faster than a 486, but
- will the make a qualitative difference in what I can do with a
- PC?
-
- And is anyone taking bets on the true compatibility of ZEOS's
- new machines with the 586sx?
