- Thanks to all who replied. The short summary is that I was sent 8-bit
- wide SIMMs instead of 9-bit wide SIMMs, through an honest mistake on the part
- of the person I bought the SIMMs from. He is in the process of correcting the
- problem, and I do NOT want to reveal his identity.
-
- But I will urge that if you need 9-bit wide SIMMs (all but the least expensive
- clone PC's do), that you go out of your way to make sure that the SIMMs
- have either 3 or 9 chips, NOT 8. Don't just do as I did and specify
- "4Mbit*9" -- spell it out. SIMMs with 8 chips are great for Mac's; but not
- for OS/2 or UNIX on Intel platforms.
