  33. It can be a problem, since you won't be able to detect bad RAM.  OS/2
  34. (and Unix) push RAM much harder than DOS or Windows, so marginal
  35. memory is more likely to cause problems under those systems.  Without
  36. parity checking, things will just go wrong on you instead of trapping
  37. and halting the system

  39. BTW, only the older Macs worked without parity.  The newer (and
  40. faster) models use parity-checked RAM.
