- I need some help to determine how to proceed with a problem I am having with
- my hard drive. After running a windows application from a DOS prompt (via
- win <executable filename>) I got an error message saying that a "serious disk
- error" occurred. During the boot process I get the following message
-
- Sector not found reading drive C
- Abort, Retry, Ignore, Fail
-
- I have run chkdsk and it did find one problem with the file allocation table.
- I told chkdsk to create a file but I can't access that file (get the same
- message as above.) Running DT (disk test) in the Norton Integrator gives me
- error messages that state:
-
- cluster read error; not currently in use -- DANGER TO COME
-
- All data files and programs still seem to be intact.
-
- What do I need to do to correct this problem? Do I need to reformat the hard
- drive? (I can still backup the disk.)
-
- Suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your help.
