- Okay, I just ordered my new 486-50 motherboard (not dx2) and installed it
- and it runs fine. Problem is, I got no manual with the MB.
-
- The bios setup seems more or less simple, and I think I've figured most
- of it out, but I am still puzzled by the cache wait-state numbers (3-2-2 for
- instance) and all that.
-
- It's an AMI bios (4.1 I think, or 4.2) and a UMC chipset.
-
- If anyone out there has some sort of type of manual for the AMI bios, I'd
- appreciate it. Also, any info on the UMC chipset would be helpful.
-
- On another note, the motherboard has 1 8-bit slot and 6 16-bit. The last two
- 16-bit slots look vaguely like EISA slots (though it's an ISA machine). I'm
- not sure who the motherboard manufacturer is...so...my speculations are
- perhaps some proprietary memory or local bus scheme perhaps? Anyone have
- any idea?
-
- I really need to call the company that sold me this and ask for a manual if
- they please. PC Importers...any experience with them?
-
- On another completely different note, I have an external tape drive,
- Archive XLE 5580/e, made by Maynard. I called Maynard, and got a part
- number (20A) but they wanted mega much. So I called Computer Mail Order,
- and they had it for half as much, so I ordered it. Weeks go by, and I call
- back asking where the hells my card, and they so, oh...it was out of stock,
- and we no longer plan to carry it. They never called me or anything, and
- further, never credited my card back...it still had a 70 dollar hold on it.
-
- Is there anywhere that carries tape drive controller cards (besides Maynard
- that is :-) that would have something like this? Would an Accutrak controller
- (also by Maynard) work? Are there accelerated controllers available for it?
-
- Grr...a nice decent tape drive and no controller...I fell I shall go mad!
